CHAPTER 13

My eyes roamed over Tirgen’s slender, well-defined form. The sprinklers had drenched him in water, making his shirt see-through. His hair was slicked to his head, yet he somehow made the look work. He was six feet tall, with hazel eyes and brown hair. Incubus demons had one thing in common. They were attractive. Every one of them could grace the cover of a magazine, and since sex was a requirement to keep up their strength, they dressed well and maintained jobs that kept them in the public eye.

Carnell’s club manager was no exception to the rule. His easy smile and flicker of red as he met my gaze were a clear indication he was ready to help attend to my new succubus requirements when needed. It was exactly what I needed. A go-to guy that wouldn’t ask for an attachment and I had no doubt it would be an enjoyable experience. Sex demons had a standard to uphold, and they took pride in their ability to make their partners come back for more. Heavy emphasis on the coming part. Tirgen wasn’t the problem, and I acknowledged that this was a conversation I would have to revisit either with him or someone else.

“I appreciate your… offer, but I need a little time to acclimatize to the demon stuff,” I admitted.

Tirgen nodded graciously. “Carnell is one of the oldest amongst our species and very wise, but I have found that confiding in family is sometimes difficult. You may come to me with anything you need. I am here for you.”

He had no idea how true that statement was for me. I needed Carnell more than ever, but who wanted to talk to their grandfather about sex? “I sincerely appreciate that Tirgen and I may take you up on that.”

Tirgen grabbed his cell phone from the pocket of his black dress pants. “Carnell wishes to speak with you upstairs. If you give me your phone, I will attempt to have it repaired. Carnell has a new cell for you upstairs. I will have all your information switched over before you leave his office.”

I handed Tirgen my phone. “Thank you, really.”

He winked and turned toward the mirrored bar as I headed for the elevator. The smell of burnt fabric lingered in the air despite the pools of water on the dance floor. I wiped the water from the sleeves of my leather jacket as I reached the elevator. Fortunately, it was waterproof and my pants would dry quickly. My hair had been wet from my shower so it looked the same as when I came in. The door chimed and opened before I could press the button, and I glanced at the surveillance camera above the doors before I stepped in.

Rock music played on the way up to Carnell’s private suite and I was humming a tune when I stepped from the elevator and made my way to Carnell’s living room. It was exactly as I remembered it, with leopard print couches and faux fur chairs.
